Your Questions About Virus Removal Mac

Betty asks…

Can macs get viruses??? Help ASAP!?

so I have a MacBook & while using aMSN with 2 of my contacs, one sent me (not on purpose) a link with the saying “I Think this is your photo!!” & then the link so I stupidly opened the link but I didnt work on my mac so i sent it to the other contact to see if she was able to see the page but then the thing went crazy & the link was sent to all of her contacts & I keep getting it!

whats wrong with that link???

is my MacBook infected???

How to get rid of it???

Give me all the info you know please!!!!
oh & both of those contacts, use PC’s

softwareguru answers:

Virus writers have to target their virus for a specific application or operating system. Since Windows is on 90% of the world’s computers, Windows and Windows related applications are the biggest virus target. But any computer and any OS can be corrupted by a virus or trojan.

If your Mac is running Windows you can try this free antivirus software http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

Symantec.com and mcafee.com offer virus removal for a fee.

You can search for free virus removal tools… AdAware is trustworthy… But some free “antivirus software” is actually a virus itself. Don’t use any free antivirus software unless you can also find recommendations from reputable sources like pcworld.com

Richard asks…

2. Delete Mac Protector from the Applications folder.

3. Check System Preferences → Accounts → Login Items for Mac Protector entry.

Your Questions About Malware Removal 2012

Posted by softwareguru on August 29, 2014

Betty asks…

Are there any free programs to remove the system security 2012 virus?

softwareguru answers:

Follow these instructions carefully (note: although the name says “2011” the malware and the removal of it will be the same as the ‘2012’ version).

> Remove System Security 2011: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-system-security-2011

Another note:
The free versions of antiviruses use the same scanning engines as the paid versions (of each particular company), and they get the same updates.
The only difference between the free versions and paid versions are the bells and whistles that the above answerer mentions in every question that he replies to.

Edit @ Casca Longinus:
That removal that you linked to is either “Security Guard 2012”, or “Security Sphere 2012”.
And they are the same removal as System Security 2011, except that the System Security 2011 removal includes using TDSSKiller… Which can’t hurt to run if it isn’t necessary; but is pretty important if it *is* necessary 😉

Steven asks…

Windows Secure Kit 2012 (FAKE VIRUS)?

I know for sure this is a fake virus, because of many subtle errors, such as the flashing icons and the popup you can’t move. I know the window itself is still the internet browser because when I open the file path separately, it doesn’t redirect me. Also, the Local Disk [C:] doesn’t usually have a toolbar telling you the weather. I’m not sure if it left anything on my computer, and I don’t feel like wasting money to buy anti virus on a computer 5 years old. I have the link, access it through a proxy or a cached file, it made several appearances online in the past 24 hours, mostly from google links. Here’s the URL (access through proxy for safety): http://usaonlineee.com/?q=NTI1ODA1OSEBtlusYoUjAE5zT1JPZURpWE93ZHlGd3lweFdqRXNCU3Bwb3JNRmVIdVh0Q3VmdnVYSwBiM2ZjNTc5YzA3YzQ0OTM2NjZlNzA1MmQ2NzYzYTQxZmYzNGFkZDliMzEwODhlYWYxNTY1NzY0MjU1MmEyNmNjNmM0ZjNjYjk0MTQwYTgyZgAxMzMwNjU4MTAzRW95TnZJZ0xBVjc=
